THE CONSTRUCTION OF A HYBRID THERMAL/SOLAR 60 MW POWER PLANT
Sector: Energy
Type: Public
Project manager: Ministry of Energy
Estimated cost (USD): USD 84 million
Estimated cost (FCFA): FCFA 42 billion
The project for the construction of a hybrid thermal/solar power plant with a production capacity of 60MW in Soraz aims to reduce the recurrent electric power deficit in central-East Niger (Zinder, Maradi, Tahoua) in order to promote the use of Niger’s abundant natural resources. The project implementation will increase national coverage, improve electric supply quality in serviced areas and contribute to socio-economic development in the central-East regions of Niger.
Benefits
- Promotion of renewable energy sources;
- Satisfy strong national demand;
- Economic profitability justified by the existence of a fuel transport pipeline to the site and of a 132 KW power line to evacuate power to the area;
- Production costs rationalization: area located in a huge sunny area close to the Zinder refinery for better supply to the plant.
