Project owner: Société Nigérienne d’Aquaculture (SONA)
Estimated cost (USD): USD 1.1 million
Estimated cost (FCFA): FCFA 550 million
Niger possesses an extensive water network composed mainly of the Niger river, Lake Chad, the Komadougou Yobé as well as countless permanent and semi-permanent pools. Despite this potential, Nigeriens consume fish imported from abroad because fishermen’s catches do not cover the fish requirements of the Nigerien population. The objective of this project is to reduce or bring an end to fish imports and to provide fresh good-quality fish to Nigeriens.
- Satisfy strong national and international for good quality fresh fish;
- Boost the pisciculture sector to enable it to play a key role in the achievement of food autonomy in Niger;
- Reduce production cost by using local products for fish food.
