THE CREATION OF A SOLAR PANEL AND EQUIPMENT ASSEMBLY PLANT

  • Sector: Energy

  • Type: Public

  • Project manager: National Solar Energy Centre

  • Estimated cost (USD): USD 12 million

  • Estimated cost (FCFA): FCFA 6 billion

Due to lack of power grid access, the Nigerien and sub-region populations increasingly use solar equipment to ensure basic needs, in general for comfort purposes. The increased demand has led to the import of equipment from many suppliers, often of dubious quality.

The long-term objectives of the project are to create:

  • Assembly of solar panels and various solar kit options including lighting, cooler, pumping solutions etc.;

  • A solar street lamp assembly line;

  • A solar water-heater production or assembly plant.

Benefits

  • Respond to strong power demand from Niger and the sub-region;

  • Promote renewable energy sources;

  • Diversify the power offering in Niger.
