THE CREATION OF AN AGRO-FOOD PRODUCTION FACTORY
Sector: Agriculture Industry
Type: Private
Project owner: GIE Gayi Koira
Estimated cost (USD): USD 39 million
Estimated cost (FCFA): FCFA 19,500 billion
The green belt that surrounds Niamey was previously designed to protect the city against strong winds and more frequently dusty air. Today, this belt is practically non-existent; it is in this context that this project was created to set up a new green belt further to the North of the previous one. In contrast to the former belt, in addition to protecting the city of Niamey, the new green belt will also have an agro-forestry production and agro-food industry vocation. This project also includes the creation of a tomato concentrate, shea butter and milk processing production plant.
Benefits
- Improvement of food security for Nigeriens;
- Reduction of market, forestry and milk product imports;
- Space optimisation for improved industrial operation;
- Abundance of agricultural resources and existence of a strong national demand for agro-food and agro-forestry livestock products.
